Critical Sage Software Updates: Deprecation of Microsoft Basic Authentication and TLS 1.0 & 1.1
FAQs for Sage 100
Recently Sage and Microsoft announced two critical updates that will affect most Sage 100 and Sage CRM users:
1. The Deprecation of TLS 1.0 & 1.1. – Effective September 30, 2023
Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a third-party component that is widely adopted and designed to facilitate privacy and data security when communicating over the internet. TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 have been formally deprecated by the Internet Engineering Task Force since June 2018 and they are highly recommending usage of TLS 1.2. Therefore, by the end of next summer, Sage will no longer support TLS 1.0 and 1.1. It will be necessary for customers to upgrade to Sage 100 and Sage CRM version 2020.1 or higher by end of summer 2023.
2. The Deprecation of Basic Authentication – As Early as January 1st, 2023
Microsoft will disable Basic authentication and will require the use of modern authentication (OAuth) for connection to servers, services, and API endpoints, such as Exchange on-line and O365 email tenants. This means that in-product email services will stop working if customers are on versions of Sage 100 and Sage CRM prior to 2020.1. It is critical that all customers upgrade to the latest version of Sage as early as January 1st, 2023.
As a result of these updates, it’s imperative that all active Sage customers upgrade their software to a supported version to avoid business disruption and continue using Sage 100.
